Hello friends. Lately, I’ve been listening more closely to fear — not to quell it, but to understand its many voices. This piece arrived in that listening. Much love, Cherie
fear need not take up residency in your heart, dear one
let it pass through like the wind
it is not meant to stay
not meant to take root within you
fear arrives to be felt
to bring its message and move on
it is nomadic, you see
so honor its coming and going
feel the ripple as it moves through your body
the prickle as it peaks in your mind
but do not hold on to it, no
soften your grip
let it pass through you
the air calm, the body settle
only then can your vision grow clear
yes, even welcome fear,
as the necessary and cyclic visitor it is
come to know it well
for fear never arrives empty-handed
but what you make of it
is yours and yours alone
can you see it now, sweet one
fear is not the enemy
it is only a messenger
so allow it to come with its wisdom
listen to its stories
but remember:
fear is also a trickster
it is not always what it seems
and fear wears many faces
so become curious, loved one
watch fear as it comes and goes
through your mind, your body, your life
learn its ways
become intimate with fear
this way, you’ll know how to meet it when it arrives
at times you may follow it;
while other times, with a wry smile,
move in another direction
knowing it is not meant to lead this moment
it’s true, dear one
the winds of fear are blowing
strong and strange these days
but even now, do not despair
learn to dance with fear
seeing it for what it is
and nothing more
